Offense saw some questionable decisions and inability to move the ball due to lack of qb depth; defense was a total embarrassment. This might not be the national championship formula, but I’m not shocked for the defensive-minded head coach to focus on the defense when it needs help the most.

I guess we also compare to Mike Gundy, who needed to give up play-calling years ago. But we have entered the era of the more hands-on coach, which we can see with the reaction of “what will he do with himself?” to Jimbo Fisher giving up play-calling duties. And Saban is never a CEO coach, right? I’m still on the Venables train.
