As this is being written, Saturday afternoon, it’s yet to be announced, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is about never wrong, allowing us to presume it to be true.

That is, Josh Oppenheimer will become Sooner men’s basketball coach Porter Moser’s newest assistant, joining Clayton Custer, Armon Gates and Ryan Humphrey already on staff.

Also, it is the last two words of Wojnarowski’s Friday tweet breaking the news that make it so very interesting.

Here’s the tweet:

“ESPN Sources: Former Milwaukee Bucks assistant Josh Oppenheimer is joining Porter Moser’s staff at Oklahoma. Oppenheimer — who had a close working relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo — will take on a significant role in player development and offensive strategy.”

Do you see?

Has Moser hired an offensive coordinator?

Has he hired not a “fourth” assistant, but a first assistant?

Or, at least, has he hired an offensively dedicated assistant who’ll step in and run timeouts on occasion, whom Moser will submit some level of deference to as the guy whose first job requirement is getting Sooner hoops into offensive shape every bit as much as it’s Jerry Schmidt’s job to get Sooner football players into physical shape.

Because Oklahoma needs that guy.

Desperately, horrendously and preposterously, it needs that guy.
