It's been a completely dysfunctional OU football season and hoping for a reversal of form seems like the heighth of folly. Right now, the biggest concern should be hanging on to the recruits. If they begin having second thoughts, then the program will indeed be in deep water. At this time, having joe castiglione in charge of hiring new HCs is another folly in its own right. He's been in the job for too long and needs to be jettisoned along with football and basketball HCs. But figuring out how to keep the ranked recruits on campus has to be the top priority. Unfortunately, castiglione has the ear of a newish school president, thus the inordinate salary raise given dreadful football and basketball HCs. SEC ready? Hardly. And these staffs were given three years to prepare for the move. Incredible.
OU football under venables and basketball under moser: woefully inept. I believe I wrote on here three years ago that BV was a terrible choice as a HC and moser would continue to lose almost entire rosters year to year. They are both awful excuses for head coaches and their programs will go down in school history as the worst of the worst. Unlike Clay, I am no fan of castoglione, and his role in giving venables the keys to the OU vault should be adequate to keep him on the hot seat. Forty-five million for a totally unproven HC? That's insane! And you know that Castiglione was instrumental in it. OU better offer bv a half-price deal and swallow the twenty plus million dollar loss. Or hire a real HC and move him to DC and let him collect the big bucks for the rest of his coaching life. I've been vocal about the moser atrocity ever since his first season. After watching it be repeated for two more years, what in the world could cause Castiglione to keep this hangdog around? Players obviously hate working for him and the success ratio is abysmal. Just another example of the reasons castiglione should be bundled into a package deal with his two loser HCs and sent packing off to South Dakota State...if it would even accept them, which is doubtful.
SEC ready always meant having enough millions of dollars to join the SEC, like Texas does. OU can't seem to cover the 19 million dollar exit fee for leaving the Big 12 early and pay for needed NIL to retain and attract transfer players, so they are making cuts in other areas (see Fred Jones Museum free entry). SEC ready was always about the money and OU just doesn't have enough to hang with the other SEC schools. The two Joes should've seen this coming but instead BV gets a huge raise and contract. Makes no sense.
Nope.

Your final comment sums it up nicely. We were not ready for the SEC and are now a very small fish in a very large pond.
