Saturday was another tough day at the office for Porter Moser as Oklahoma fell to Alabama by a bucket. (OU Athletics Photo/Tyler Clouse)

So here it was.

Oklahoma and 18th-ranked Alabama, in front of a horrendously sparse Lloyd Noble Center crowd, though a lively and invested one all the same. Several times the Sooners had that embarrassingly small crowd on its feet, appreciative of their efforts.

Because they had led by 11 points at the half. And after giving up 12 straight to begin the next one, they’d responded to grab a seven-point edge. And after ’Bama’d tied it again, they’d pushed back to lead 73-67 on Xzayvier Brown’s jumper with 5:51 remaining.

The Sooners had lapsed but responded, creating their own energy, waking the old building up.

Still, with 6.3 seconds remaining, off a made charity from Amari Allen, ’Bama led by two, handing OU an assignment to complete.

One, inbound the ball and advance it without wasting any time in the backcourt. Two, score, any field goal would do.

Brown swept across the backcourt baseline, received the ball with speed and motored up the left sideline in front of the benches, leaving a couple Tide defenders in his wake.

Then … what? … the Sooner coach called timeout?
